I Mulherio das Letras

Considering we conceive art and science as common good, the first Mulherio das Letras de Portugal will take place on the 7,8,9 and 10 of March, 2019. The event aims to suggest an approach to feminine literature that can establish a dialogue between the academy and the civil society, between the writers and their readers. The event aims to broaden the borders of art and literature, as well as to understand dynamics of identity. In this regard, there will be space to open and debate the literary and academic production of writers, artists, researchers, journalists.

Being an initiative of the thematic line “History of Women and Gender”, of CHAM - Centre for the Humanities, the event will take place between the NOVA FCSH of the New University of Lisbon and Palácio Baldaya. The first Mulherio das Letras de Portugal is inspired on the first Brazilian national meeting Mulherio das Letras, that took place in João Pessoa (northwest of Brazil) between the 12th and 15th of October, 2017.

We think women’s movements are a crucial part of any project of radical transformation of society. This event is, therefore, conceived as a politic of sisterhood, as a place of recovery of silenced voices and, finally, as a tool of diffusion and discussion of the feminine artistic and cultural production.
