O Centro InterculturaCidade acolhe com enorme alegria, em estreia absoluta em Portugal, o grupo Samba Chula de S. Braz,  um dos mais genuínos representantes da tradição popular do Samba Chula do Recôncavo da Bahia, região em que persistem até hoje muitas das velhas tradições  dos escravos negros que para lá foram levados na época colonial.

O grupo de S.Braz venceu em 2008 o Prémio Pixinguinha/Funarte uma dos mais importantes distinções brasileiras na área das músicas tradicionais. A sua passagem por Portugal é possível graças ás relações de parceria e amizade que a associação ETNIA mantém desde há anos com a directora artística do projecto “Cantador de Chula”, a etnomusicóloga alemã Katharina Doring, radicada no Brasil há vários anos.

Trata-se de um acontecimento  imperdível, que muito honra o Centro Interculturacidade e que recomendamos vivamente. Não falte!

Salah M. Hassan _ Arte “Islâmica” contemporânea: Políticas curatoriais de representação no ocidente após 11 de Setembro   (conferência em inglês)

Salah M. Hassan é professor Goldwin Smith de História de Arte e Cultura Visual Africana e da Diáspora Africana e director do Instituto para as Modernidades Comparativas, ambos na Universidade de Cornell (EUA), onde também é professor no Africana Studies and Research Center, bem como no Departamento de História de Arte e Estudos Visuais. Hassan é editor do Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art e editor consultor para a African Arts e Atlantica. Foi autor, editor e co-editor de vários livros, incluindo Diaspora, Memory, Place (Prestel, 2008); Unpacking Europe (NAi Publishers, 2001); Authentic/Ex-Centric (2001); Gendered Visions: The Art of Contemporary Africana Women Artists (1997) e Art and Islamic Literacy among the Hausa of Northern Nigeria (1992). Mais recentemente publicou Darfur and the Crisis of Governance: A Critical Reader (Cornell University Press, 2009) e foi editor convidado para um número especial da SAQ-South Atlantic Quarterly, intitulado African Modernism (2010). Para além de ter contribuído com ensaios para diversas revistas, antologias e catálogos de exposições de arte contemporânea, Hassan tem sido curador de várias exposições internacionais, tal como Authentic/Ex-Centric, para a 49ª Bienal de Veneza (2001); Unpacking Europe (Roterdão/Holanda, 2001-02), e 3x3: Three Artists/Three Projects,com David Hammons, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons e Pamela Z (Dak’Art, Senegal, 2004). Salah M. Hassan colabora ainda como professor ou consultor convidado para a J. Paul Getty Postdoctoral Fellowship e para as fundações Ford, Rockefeller, Andy Warhol e Prince Claus Fund.

Li Ké Terra: o filme produzido no âmbito do programa DOCTV-CPLP, bem português (significa ‘A nossa Terra’), traz ares de Cabo Verde. De olhos postos em Ruben e Miguel, dois jovens filhos de imigrantes cabo-verdianos, o documentário de um trio de jovens cineastas – Filipa Reis, João Miller Guerra e Nuno Baptista – convenceu o júri do DocLisboa e ganhou o galardão maior na Competição Portuguesa – o Prémio de Melhor Longa-Metragem.

Li Ké Terra tells the story of Miguel Moreira and Ruben Furtado, two Cape Verdean immigrant descendants who live in Portugal but have no legal documents. They are torn between the desire to be a full Portuguese citizen and the obstacles they find in their day to day. Proud of being who they are they keep on dreaming of their future reflecting their wishes for a better life.
Above all, Miguel and Ruben lead us to one question: What kind of identity has a stateless person?
Li Ké Terra is a sarcastic portrait of two teenagers who are trying to give meaning to their lives.

AFRICAN CONTEMPORARY JAZZ CONCERT

DUDU MANHENGA is a dynamic young Zimbabwean singer/songwriter who leads and fronts the group ‘Color Blu’, formed along with her husband and partner drummer Blessing Muparutsa. 

 Her music has been accurately described as ‘an afro jazz adventure’ -  a fusion of genres: afro, contemporary, Zimbabwe traditional, township, jazz, Latino, and a cultural cross-breed of Zimbabwe’s Manica, Mashona and Matabele rhythms and melodies, with energetic stage work, and sizzling vocals.    

In the twelve years she has been in the music industry, she has toured in the region and internationally, sharing the stage with major stars such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Dorothy Masuka, The Cool Crooners, Judith Sephuma, Ray Phiri, Jimmy Dludlu and the late Jabu Khanyile, Kunle Ayo, Ernie Smith, Ringo, Eric Paliani, Prudence Katomene, Kudzi Sevenzo, Jose Chameleon, Gang of Instrumentals, Kwani Experience, Mingas, among many, many others.

Esta  exposição de enorme prestígio e única no seu género, é o resultado de  um concurso anual mundial de Foto-jornalismo e estará pela terceira  vez patente ao público na cidade de Luanda.

We hereby invite all interested scholars to submit paper proposals for presentation on one of the approved ECAS 4 panels. To be accepted paper proposals need to fit into one of the approved panels. The deadline for the submission of paper abstracts is Wednesday 22 December 2010. All paper proposals will be reviewed in January 2011, and those who have submitted abstracts will be notified no later than 28 February 2011 as to whether their paper has been accepted or not.
