Ricardo Seiça Salgado

Ricardo Seiça Salgado is an anthropologist and a performer. His main research interest lies on the relation between anthropology, theatre and politics. Salgado holds a PhD in Anthropology from Lisbon University Institute for which he has received a grant from Foundation for Science and Technology, Portugal. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Performance Studies - Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, in 2009. Salgado holds post-graduate degrees in Patrimony and Identity from the Lisbon University Institute, and Emergent Cultures: From Criticism to Artistic Manifestations from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. His undergraduate degree in Anthropology was at Universidade de Coimbra. He has taught at Escola Superior de Tecnologias e Artes de Lisboa for three years.

As a performer, Salgado participated in several theatre productions, short movies, performances (CITAC, Escola da Noite and projecto BUH!), and had recently started to direct (projecto BUH! andCITAC). He directed the documentary State of Exception. Ricardo received grants from FCT, Gulbenkian Foundation and is now working on a curatorial project in Guimarães, European Capital of Culture.
