Bart Paul Vanspauwen

Researcher at the Instituto de Etnomusicologia - Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança (INET-md), Universidade Nova in Lisbon (UNL). Doctor and Master in Ethnomusicology at UNL, Postgraduate in Cultural Studies with an emphasis on Postcolonial Anthropology and Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Comparative Literature at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL). Bart conducted research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, and field research in Recife, Maputo, and Lisbon. In his doctoral thesis Lusofonia in Musidanças. Governance, Discourse and Performance, he analyzed the role of postcolonial festivals in the promotion of lusophone musics. He was a special contributor to the issue ‘Música e Migração’ of the Revista Migrações, published by ACIDI and INET-md. He also guest-edited an online edition of the journal Image & Narrative, ‘Visualization of the subaltern in world music’, published by the Institute of Cultural Studies at KUL.
