Lígia Afonso

Portugal, 1981) is a graduate in History of Art and has a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova of Lisbon, where she now works as a researcher in the Institute of Art History. 

Having recently published the book entitled Mário Eloy (Público, Lisbon, 2010), she continues her involvement in various research, exhibition and publication projects with several art institutions in Portugal and Brazil. She took part in the London / Liverpool Visual Art Curators Showcase 08 programme, held a residency at the ZDB Gallery and was the curator of the exhibition A Escolha da Crítica (The Critics’ Choice) for Plataforma Revólver. Lígia Afonso is also an art critic and regularly publishes articles in the online magazine artecapital.net. Has worked as an assistant curator for the 29th São Paulo Biennial (on a scholarship from INOV-Art).
