Angela Guerreiro
Is an Afro-descendant independent artist, choreographer, dancer, mentor, curator, producer, born in Lisbon in 1965. She trained in classical dance according to the Royal Academy of Dance system (1975-86), studied at the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon (1986-89) and at the Center of New Dance Development in Arnhem (1989-91). Completed her Master’s degree in Dance Movement Therapy in 2015. Certified Dynamic Embodiment Practitioner (DEP) by the Somatic Movement Therapy Training (DE-SMTT) program in 2019. Started BaBoMiDa - Baby BodyMind Dancing™ somatic education program, a branch of BodyMind Dancing™, the Somatic dance system developed by Martha Eddy. A Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME) - ISMETA.
From 1991-94 she was a member of the RE.Al Company of João Fiadeiro. From 1995 to 2002 she was resident choreographer at Kampnagel Hamburg. From 2003 to 2005 she created the solos ‘Exposure’, and ‘Memory Play’. From 2005-2016 she initiated and directed the festival ‘DanceKiosk-Hamburg’. Produced the projects ‘Kiosk.Company’, ‘DanceKiosk. Goes Island’, ‘Tracing Dance from Addis Ababa to Nairobi and Hamburg’, ‘dance beyond borders’ and ‘SURVIVING DANCE - Art - Economy - Politics’. In the magazine DANCE in 2011 she was called ‘one of the last independent activists in contemporary dance’. Her project ‘The Live Legacy Project: Correspondences between German Contemporary Dance and the Judson Dance Theater Movement’ was funded by TANZFONDS ERBE. In 2015, Guerreiro participated in the project ‘The best. The worst. My everything!’. The film ‘The Live Legacy Project - Film documentation’, premiered at the Tanzkongress Hannover 2016. She performed at Frank Castorf’s production ‚Faust’, Volksbühne Berlin in 2017. In 2020, receives financial support from the Munich cultural department for the creation of ‘WIR’, a film production with teenagers from different cultures. She was awarded a research grant about the presence of black bodies in Europe, the installation project ‘Me and My White Skeleton’. In 2021, she received funding for the project ‘Digitizing the Archive from 1994-2016 - Angela Guerreiro Productions (AGP)’, funded by the NEUSTART KULTUR programme, DIS-TANZEN. She is a member of the association UNA - União Negra das Artes.
