Ana Paula Tavares

Ana Paula Tavares began her studies in History at the Faculty of Letters, University of Lubango (now Instituto Superior de Ciências da Educação da Huíla, Angola), but obtained her degree in Portugal. She also has M.A. degree in African Literatures Written in Portuguese (FLUL), and Ph.D. in Historical Anthropology (UNL). After the independence of Angola she became cultural delegate for the province of Southern Kwanza and a researcher at the National Centre for Documentation and Historical Research, now the National Historical Archive, at the Angolan Institute for Cultural Heritage. She has been working in the fields of culture, museology, archeology and ethnology. She is also a poet and a writer, and her more recent publications are: Como veias finas da terra (2010), A cabeça de Salomé (2004), Ex-votos (2003), Dizes-me coisas amargas como os frutos (2001) – which received the Poetry Prize Mário António 2004. Tavares was also awarded the Prémio Nacional de Literatura de Angola (2007) and the Premio Internazionale Ceppo Pistoia 2013 (Italy).
