"Off-screen" project
A Bienal Europeia de Arte Contemporânea Manifesta 8 acolhe o projecto Fora de Campo (Off screen project) até 9 de Janeiro 2011, no 1 andar do Pavillón 2 do Cuartel de Artillaria, em Múrcia (Espanha). Off screen project foi seleccionado pela equipa de curadores Tranzit.org.
Projecto “Fora de Campo”
Extract of “Negative, substantive”, audio-video piece (17’). This piece is part of the display of the Off screen project - on Mozambique Film Archive, produced for Manifesta 8 Biennial, in Murcia. Off-screen is a research based project that proposes a kind of reenactment of symbolic and material image organization. Starting from original political determinations of Mozambican propaganda films, the Off-screen method induces or just identifies the unfolding of relational transformations that are raised basically from putting perception itself at play. It suggest that archive genealogy or any other documentary organization approach combines a relational process with a sizeable shift to the realm of the (political) present. This video shows myself manipulating the images of Mozambican propaganda films at my studio in Lisbon. The text for the final voice-over was auto-recorded in a short lecture I gave in Maputo in September 2010. This 5 minute clip was then part of the presentation to local audience.
A proposta 'Off screen' para a Manifesta 8 reproduz o processo de acumulação, justaposição e associação de documentos videográficos, fotogramas, fotografias, entrevistas e outros materiais documentais relacionados com a genealogia do Arquivo de Maputo. Umas das peças audiovisuais foi produzida especificamente para a bienal Manifesta 8 e mostra o sentido criado através do manuseamento sequencial da documentação, concentrado numa relação particular entre o sujeito (artista), a câmara e o material de investigação (ver vídeo).
