This is the first edition of a multicultural meeting that focuses on different projects, arts and artists as its name indicates, we want to drag, bringing the city to us, to discovering new forms, new ways of creation.

Dois anos depois do sucesso do álbum “Zound Zande”, o rapper Art Melody, do Burkina Faso, regressa com: WOGDOG BLUES (Ouagadougou Blues) na Akwaaba Music. Um álbum ambicioso que empurra os limites de Hip Hop Africano, mergulhando o ouvinte num turbilhão de música.

O Grupo de Teatro do Centro Cultural Português do Mindelo – GTCCPM - está a preparar duas produções para assinalar o seu vigésimo aniversário: “A Escola de Mulheres”, de Molière, que sobe ao palco a 22 de Março; e “A Tempestade”, de Shakespeare, com estreia marcada para o mês de Setembro.

Estas novas peças vêm marcar os 20 anos do GTCCPM, considerado o mais produtivo e internacional da história do teatro cabo-verdiano, com 47 produções e mais de 40 actuações em festivais e eventos internacionais.

“O grupo mudou os paradigmas do teatro cabo-verdiano. A qualidade plástica das encenações, a ousadia experimental das montagens, a diversidade dramatúrgica na escolha das peças e a promoção do teatro cabo-verdiano além-fronteiras são apenas alguns dos aspectos que saliento”, avalia o director, João Branco, ao Jornal A Semana.

“O GTCCPM conquistou um público novo e exigente para o teatro cabo-verdiano e contribuiu para o aparecimento de novas companhias”, salienta ainda o actor e encenador.

O Grupo de Teatro do CCP do Mindelo nasceu em 1993, tendo imprimido uma forte dinâmica teatral em S. Vicente. Começou por ser um Curso de Iniciação Teatral, nasceu como grupo, sem nunca ter posto de parte a vertente da formação, que continua a ser ministrada no CCP do Instituto Camões em paralelo com as actividades do grupo teatral.

Criada por um coletivo de artistas, AFRIKADAA (Afro Design and Contemporary Arts) é uma revista de arte contemporânea que pretende trazer uma outra perspectiva para o cenário da arte contemporânea, contando a história e as trajetórias de comunidades artisticas para além das fronteiras mercado.

16th TIME OF THE WRITER Durban: 18 - 23 March 2013
The written word will envelop Durban as nineteen writers from South Africa, Africa and abroad, gather for a thought-provoking week of literary dialogue, exchange of ideas and stimulating discussion at the 16th Time of the Writer International Writers Festival (18 - 23 March). The festival, hosted by the Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal), with principal support by National Lottery Distribution Fund, will feature a diverse gathering of leading novelists, social commentators, activists, playwrights and short story writers.
Opening night will feature all participating writers as they make brief presentations at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, while the newly appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor of the School of Humanities, Prof Cheryl Potgieter will make a keynote address and a tribute to the late Phyllis Naidoo will be read. The rest of the week’s evening presentations will be panel discussions with writers talking about their writing and the issues dealt with in their work. The musical act opening the festival is Zimbabwean band Tanga Pasi.
The panel discussion titled Perspectives in South African Writing on Tuesday 19th March will feature South African writers Kabelo Duncan Kgatea and Jo-Anne Richards. Trained as a journalist and working as a miner, it was after Kgatea’s first book Njeng manong fa ke sule! (Devour me, vultures, when I’m dead!) was published and won the Sanlam Prize Youth Literature (silver) in the Sotho category, that he got promoted to communications officer and no longer worked below ground. When The Innocence of Roast Chicken, the debut novel of internationally published author and journalist Richards first appeared, it topped the South African best seller list in its first week and remained there for 15 weeks. This discussion will be facilitated by Zukiswa Wanner.

Controversial human rights issues are brought to the fore in the evening’s second panel titled Africa Writing Queer Identity, featuring leading Nigerian writer Jude Dibia and Graeme Reid of South Africa, and will be facilitated by Sarojini Nadar. Dibia’s books address issues which range from sexuality, gender roles, race to the stigma of HIV/AIDS in modern day Africa. Reid, the director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Programme and founding director of the Gay and Lesbian Archives of South Africa, explores gay identities in South Africa in his book How to be a Real Gay. Music by Durban duo Njeza and Siphelele Dlamini will commence the evening proceedings at 19h30.
Book launches take place at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre’s Wellington Tavern deck prior to the evening shows, from 18h45. The first book launch of the festival is the UKZN English/IsiZulu Book (UKZN Press)– a collaborative venture of stories by various authors.
On Wednesday 20th March, the first panel, titled Reflections on the Palestinian State, features Palestinian-born American-based novelist and essayist, Susan Abulhawa, in an interview discussion with Lubna Nadvi. Abulhawa’s Mornings in Jenin was translated into 24 languages worldwide and hailed by The Times as the “first English-language novel to express fully the human dimension of the Palestinian tragedy”. Exploring Genre in African Literature is the topic of the second panel, featuring South African author, photographer and filmmaker, Zinaid Meeran, alongside Nnedi Okorafor, award-winning author born in the United States and of Nigerian descent. Meeran was awarded the European Union Literary award for his debut Saracen at the Gates in 2009. About a curious exploration of living raceless in a country where just about everybody seems to have one, this debut was also shortlisted for the Sunday Times fiction prize in 2010. A professor of creative writing, Okorafor has received numerous accolades for her books, which are often characterized by African culture infused with reminiscent settings and memorable characters. This panel will be facilitated by True Love books editor and publisher Melinda Ferguson. Music by Durban duo Nhlanhla Zondi and Zulublue will kick start the evening presentation, while Molope’s book, This Book Betrays my Brother launches prior to the show.

O projecto CineCaravana consiste em levar a produção recente Hortas Di Pobreza, a cidades, vilas e aldeias da Guiné-Bissau, longe das salas de cinema, apresentando o filme de forma gratuita e aberta a toda a população. O filme Hortas Di Pobreza é uma produção independente que retrata a realidade social e económica da produção e comercialização de caju, produto que envolve a maior parte da população rural da Guiné-Bissau.
A partir da leitura do filme, e ao longo de um período de 22 dias de CineCaravana, colocamos ao dispor das populações um contínuo ciclo de debates e reflexão com o público a respeito das questões retratadas no documentário. Tendo projectado o filme e realizado sessões de discussão sobre as suas principais problemáticas – o comércio justo e a segurança alimentar – em Portugal e no estrangeiro, consideramos essencial que tanto o filme como o debate e reflexão nele subjacentes regressem onde serão mais necessários: o mundo rural guineense, local que deu corpo e alma ao filme.
Os objectivos centrais do projecto CineCaravana desdobram-se em duas áreas fundamentais: a área cultural e a área de intervenção e desenvolvimento local.

No domínio cultural, é nossa intenção levar cultura sob a forma de cinema a populações que não têm acesso a este tipo de arte, num país em que a única sala de cinema existente (em Bissau) fechou na década de 1990. É de igual importância o facto de o filme projectado ser na língua mãe das populações locais – o crioulo – cuja influência na cultura cinematográfica é praticamente inexistente. Espera-se que a projecção de um filme em crioulo possa ainda valorizar as produções locais e dinamizar a apetência para futuras obras nesta língua, normalmente marginalizada, apesar de ser a que une o povo guineense e a única que é compreendida por quase toda a população.
No âmbito da intervenção e desenvolvimento local, pretende-se acima de tudo motivar a uma reflexão conjunta sobre os destinos da população e agricultura locais, tendo em vista a possibilidade de empoderamento dos produtores locais. Discutir formas de organização de produtores e articulações com intervenientes ligados ao comércio justo poderiam ser primeiros passos importantes para uma melhoria significativa na justiça do comércio local e na segurança alimentar das populações.
Não podemos prever que resultados poderão advir destas reflexões comuns, mas antecipamos que a facilitação e promoção deste pequeno “fórum social” estimule a reflexão e o debate em conjunto, essenciais para poderem juntos definir linhas de acção e reflexão sobre os seus problemas comuns.

Em 2010, depois de longas viagens no Mali e na Mauritânia, Chris Kirkley apresentou “Music from Saharan Cellphones. Vol 1”. Uma gravação em K7 rapidamente se tornou viral. Depois disso, Christopher Kirkley lançou o volume 2 da mesma colecção e ainda um album remix Music for Saharan cell phones.

Nos idées sur la circulation de la culture dématérialisée sont les mêmes qu’à l’époque du phonographe, alors qu’ici, tout est très différent. Au Sahel, l’échange est roi.»
